I am an environmental campaigner, interested in nature, climate, public policy, and public opinion.
I am Director of Policy and Engagement for Scottish Environment LINK, the coalition of environmental organisations. This website is a home for various bits of writing, some of which were written in a professional capacity, and some where views are solely my own.
From 2013 to 2020 I worked in communications focused roles in politics, including as part of multiple election-winning campaigns.
From 2020 to 2022 I worked in public affairs for Scotland’s museums and galleries (where I still spend much of my free time).
In 2021 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change published its Sixth Assessment Report which was described as its starkest warning yet. I had been concerned about climate change since I was a teenager and freshly politicised by the Iraq War. The 2021 IPCC report convinced me that I should do more to tackle biggest challenge of our time, and I joined the environmental sector soon after.
I am a strong believer in the importance of nature in mitigating and adapting to climate change, as well as in improving our collective health and wellbeing. I view the fight for nature as a fight for people, and believe environmentalism must have justice and solidarity at its core.
I grew up in Perth, studied in Glasgow, and now live in East Lothian with my wife and three young kids.
